It has been wonderful serving as the President of the Club for the last 4 years. I have learned a lot and grown a lot with you all. When I bought my first violet at Winn Dixie 13 years ago, I had no idea what worlds would be opened up to me like this! A big THANK YOU to everyone who helped me learn more about leadership, especially Carolee Carter – she has been a big mentor to me for the last few years.
I know we are all in good hands with Linda Schwambach as our new President! Congratulations and much appreciation to the new members of the Executive Board and copious thanks to those who served their time and allowed others to step up to the plate. Our club has really grown a lot, both in size and in knowledge, since our inception in 2007.
It is with a heavy heart that I sit here in the Florida rainy afternoon and think about all the great times we have had, but also of Clive Carter’s passing. We are all a big family, and I am glad to know all of you.
I will be installing our new Officers this month. Also, just a reminder that the programs for the year are posted on the website, http://www.AfricanVioletClubofOcala.org, in the “About Us” tab under the “Programs and Meetings” tab.
Our program this month is entitled: “Methods of Watering and Potting African Violets and Other Gesneriads.” It will be a fun workshop format! Please bring newspapers to protect our working area. Other items you’ll want to bring are plants, babies or leaves that need to be repotted/separated, potting supplies such as Solo cups, pots and soil and any other necessary tools. Supplies and soil will be for sale if you run out.
Our raffles have been going strong – let’s keep it up by supplying healthy leaves and plants to spread around to everyone. Gladys has been doing a great job with the raffle!
Thank you to everyone for all you do. It truly takes a lot of people volunteering and caring to make our club such a great club. I am so glad to be a part of it!
P.S. Refreshment Volunteers for June are Gladys Keddie, Peggie Wolfrom and Jean Wargo
